The core of the programme is ‘research-based learning’ and developing a critical, inquisitive and self-reflective attitude and the skills to systematically analyse scientific issues. A major part of the programme involves active participation in ongoing research projects; facilitated by intensive coaching during an internship covering all aspects of the research cycle; being concluded with research thesis/ oral presentation. Throughout the programme students follow lecture series and seminars.

The specialisation Business Studies consists of 60 EC in Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences, 40-60 EC in Science Communication and Society and 0-20 EC electives. 

In addition to general achievements, graduates of the master programme BPS with the specialisation Business Studies have reached the following specific achievement levels: 

a. insight in managerial issues related to knowledge-intensive businesses and basic theoretical skills in business disciplines most relevant to working in these businesses; 

b. the ability to make a plan for a new business or an innovation project; 

c. experience with performing business activities in an existing company or organisation or directed towards technology-based business creation.
