In this Master’s specialisation, students are trained to analyse behaviour change problems from a psychological perspective, and to develop interventions and persuasion strategies to tackle these problems.
The Master’s programme Behaviour Change teaches you to reflect on different ways to change behaviour such as by changing intentions or habits, by activating norms or values, by teaching people competences, or by adapting the environment. You learn to develop appropriate interventions and behaviour change strategies, and to test and improve their effectiveness. The behaviour change topics that are discussed are diverse. Examples include motivating people to adopt environmentally friendly behaviours, helping people with efforts to change their lifestyle, increasing diversity and reducing prejudice, and increasing active citizenship.

The study programme incorporates both theory and practice and has been carefully designed: you will explore methods and scientific literature, and master important skills. During the programme, you are trained to become a practice-based researcher who will be able to get to work immediately. You will apply this training during the Internship and Thesis, in which you can focus your efforts in a domain of your choice that you find most interesting.

Beroepsperspectief / arbeidsmarkt
Graduates have found work in many different professions, e.g. as advertising or marketing expert (both online and offline), information officer, communication consultant, project manager, researcher, prevention expert, health promoter or policy officer in local, provincial or national government. You could also consider doing a government or corporate traineeship.
The Master's track in Behavioral Change prepares students for a career in the field of social influence or behavioral change. Instead of looking at technological solutions, people are increasingly looking at changing behavior to achieve goals, which means that the professional perspective of this program also looks good in the long term. Both the business community and the government are increasingly recognizing the importance of integrating scientific knowledge in companies to ensure that the Netherlands remains an innovative, competitive country.
