specialisaties

specialisatie Arts, Culture and Society

Art, Culture and Society prepares you for a vital role in all areas of the arts and culture sector, allowing you to take your degree not only across artistic fields, but around the globe.

In this master specialisation we teach you the skills to advise and become part of cultural organisations. After graduation, you will be the expert to turn to for knowledge about cultural marketing, or for a better understanding of public tastes and motivations.

Arts, Culture and Society offers a unique approach that integrates present-day modes of production, distribution and consumption of arts and culture beyond and across national cultural boundaries. You are trained to envision new possibilities and establish new models for the organisation of arts and culture, using cutting-edge insights in policy, marketing, audiences and education.

specialisatie Cultural Economics and Entrepreneurship

Uncover the business of cultural and creative industries. Want to become a leading thinker at the crossroads between art and economics? This master specialisation will be perfect for you.

Uncover the business of culture: get the art facts. How to tell the worth of an oeuvre? Who decides? How do cultural entrepreneurs operate in the culture market? It's all about cultural economics.

The cultural and creative sectors face constant challenges. Our students acquire the knowledge and skills to identify and and overcome them. Students acquire a solid background in cultural economics, cultural entrepreneurship, and research methods.

Cultural Economics and Entrepreneurship differs from the other programmes on cultural management because of his double perspective: cultural economics and cultural entrepreneurship. We put a greater emphasis on cutting-edge theory and original empirical research, next to providing first hand experience with entrepreneurial projects.

Due to the ability of our graduates to apply cutting edge economic theories to long-term cultural developments and trends, they are much sought-after in consultancies, private businesses as well as public institutions.

specialisatie Tourism, Culture and Society

Study the complex interplay between tourism, culture and society, in an era of mobility and globalisation.

Explore the world through the study of tourism. Why do people travel? For example, how can we make sense of New Zealand's 50% increase in tourism after the release of the Lord of the Rings trilogy? What makes a city or region attractive to visit: what motivates over 1.5 million people each year to visit Auschwitz in Poland? What role do media play in tourism industry?

These are just some of the questions that are dealt with within the master specialisation. Become a specialist in one of the fastest growing sectors of today's society. We provide you with the knowledge and skills to anticipate and understand the global dynamics between societies, cultures, media and tourism.

As a graduate of this master specialisation, you will be an in-demand professional with a sensitivity to the interplay between culture, economics, media, society and tourism. And you will be able to find creative solutions and think constructively about changes in the tourism industry.

Your broad theoretical knowledge will make you an eligible candidate for many positions, including: city marketeer, policy maker, consultant or researcher.

Rapid change necessitates a new type of cultural professional with an advanced, critical approach to arts and culture's role in both the local environment and global economy. With a master's degree from Erasmus University's Arts and Culture Studies programme, you are skilled to be a leader in this new era for the arts and culture sector.

Beroepsperspectief / arbeidsmarkt

Arts, Culture and Society prepares you for management, policy or communication positions with companies and cultural institutions such as museums, theatre companies and orchestras, festivals and publishers. But also if your ambition is a policy or management position with the government or a role in academic education and research then this master is an excellent choice.

Cultural Economics and Entrepreneurship will jumpstart your career in the cultural sector. You can work at the heart of (international) cultural organisations, government agencies, NGO's or SME's, developing new business strategies, as PR advisor or policy maker. You can also start a career as a journalist, consultant or teacher. It's even possible to start your own creative business.

Tourism, Culture and Society will make you an eligible candidate for many positions, including: city marketeer, policy maker, consultant or researcher. Many organizations are looking for candidates like you, such as governments, film commissions, museums and festivals. But you can also start your own business in the field of cultural and/or media tourism.
