specialisaties

specialisatie Corporate communication

The track Corporate Communication in Communication Science gives a broad understanding of the communication of commercial and non-profit organisations with their environment and society.

An important question within Corporate Communication is: How are communication strategies being developed, approved, implemented and what are the effects of those strategies on publics? On the one hand, the track focusses on external communication, teaching you how to build and maintain a corporate image, reputation and identity. The relationship with the press, public, media and stakeholders is discussed elaborately and crisis communication is touched upon in compliance with these relationships.

On the other hand, the track focuses on communication within corporations, such as organisational culture, communication and the new way of working, social media and employees and how this all is implemented during change processes.

You will be educated to be an academic who is fully equipped to research the topics within Corporate Communication and is able to think critically about them. You will also be equipped to work at communication and public relations departments of large organisations and as a communication consultant in an agency.
Communication and media are rapidly changing fields. Therefore our track tends to keep up to date with the latest research and developments.

specialisatie

Political communication addresses issues that are at the core of our democracties. It provides wide understanding of the role and significance of media, journalism and information for public opinion.

In this Master's you will study how interactions between (non-)governmental actors, politicians, journalists and citizens take shape, and what features and effects they have. By using the latest scientific insights, you will learn how (social) media influences political engagement and how citizens' use of media is changing. You will discuss academically who tries to influence the news and how powerful the media actually are and how this differs in different countries.

Many issues are discussed in this track, always in line with recent trends and events, and preferably using an open, international and comparative perspective. Such topics include the emergence of weblogs and citizen journalism, increasing globalisation, agenda-setting and the framing of socially relevant issues by media, politicians, spin doctors and other stakeholders.

specialisatie Entertainment Communication

The Entertainment Communication track focuses on the development, role, and impact of entertainment media in people's lives.

Entertainment media is a multi-billion dollar industry. With the growth of new media, users now engage with entertainment media everywhere and at any time of day. Organisations feel increasingly compelled to tailor their products and are in constant need of up-to-date scientific knowledge about media preferences. The Entertaionment Communication track of the Master's in Communication Science trains you to meet this growing need for knowledge and advice.

Young people are among the earliest adopters of these new technologies. Whether sharing videos on Vine, posting images on Instagram, or streaming Netflix, young people have integrated entertainment media seamlessly into their daily activities. That is why advertisers, the creative industry, and broadcasters all have a significant interest in understanding young people's media use.
