Andrew Deloucas
Andrew Deloucas - Student Testimonial Assyriology (research) Leiden University

Leiden University's Assyriology department was a perfect fit for me because of its long history of providing courses that are concerned with lesser known languages and cultures of the Ancient Near East; the opportunity to learn Hittite, Hurrian, Urartian, and Elamite gave me a unique chance to understand cultural interactions from every angle...
Everyone was caring and thoughtful in their wanting to help me carve out my own niche in the ancient world.

Shifting perspectives
Throughout my two-year study, I found myself constantly challenged in digesting material ranging from farmers' economic receipts to royal inscriptions. The need to mentally work around a vast space of material in order to come to any conclusions was perhaps the most rewarding aspect.
