Elise Perotti
Elise Perotti - Student Testimonial Hebrew and Aramaic Studies Leiden University

I decided to attend the MA programme in Hebrew and Aramaic at Leiden University after a previous master's in Classics at the University of Turin, to further specialise in Semitics. I have always been fascinated by Mediterranean history and cultures. Learning ancient languages is a continuous discovery of beauty. I am glad to say that all my expectations have been fulfilled since the first class.

Becoming an independent researcher
This programme teaches students what instruments they need and how to use them in order to become independent researchers...
Students are welcome to explore the fields in which they are specifically interested and can bring them into discussion during the lessons.

Internship and PhD
At the moment, I am doing an internship in the Art, Religion and Classic Department of a prestigious publishing house, but still oriented to pursuing a PhD. These are just two of the possible employments of the knowledge obtained through these studies.

Tori Finlayson
Tori Finlayson - Student Testimonial Egyptology Leiden University

I chose the Leiden University Egyptology master's programme because I was excited to find a programme that offers real experience in Egypt and that has a strong tradition in language. Part of the programme at Leiden in taught in Cairo, something not a lot of other master's programmes offer.

Flexibility
During my coursework at Leiden, I was able to work one-on-one with my professors. The Egyptology programme at Leiden was wonderfully flexible, allowing me to adjust my course schedule so that I could work on an excavation in Luxor that I have been involved with for some years...
It gives you the opportunity to conduct original research in Egypt, as well as to connect with professionals in the field, from around the world. Living in Egypt for two months and working with a foreign Institute (the Netherlands-Flemish Institute in Cairo), is an opportunity not given to many master's students. The Cairo semester is an invaluable experience that has made my time at Leiden meaningful.

I have recently been offered a job at the University of Arizona as a research specialist after I finish the master's programme here in Leiden and I will be applying to PhD programmes in the fall. The programme at Leiden has prepared me for the next step in my education.

Nicolò Bettegazzi
Nicolò Bettegazzi - Student Testimonial Classics Leiden University

What first attracted me about Leiden University was its international renown as a cutting-edge hub gathering outstanding classicists from all over Europe.

Outstanding Classicists
After having completed a bachelor's in Classics in Italy, Leiden seemed to me the best place to combine my theoretical background with a strong emphasis on innovative and multi-disciplinary approaches to the Ancient World...
As a Research Master's student, I can say that the master's in Classics provides you with all the tools you need to pursue an academic career, whether in the Netherlands or abroad, thanks to the expertise offered by Leiden professors and to the rich network of projects in which the department is involved.
