Strong international focus. In this master you learn to combine insights from social sciences and business studies in HR-policies that improve individual and, ultimately, organizational performance.

Students become equipped to analyze and advise on HR, work, and organizational issues, such as understanding the underpinnings of HR decisions and their consequences for work, well-being, and performance, or to implement new HR policies in the context of a changing environment. The international orientation and practice-oriented approach give you a head start in the labor market.

Human Resource Studies in Tilburg is the first scientific education program in the field of human resources in the Netherlands (since 1986), with a a unique multidisciplinary approach.

Specific attention is paid to:

  • the recognition and identification of issues in the field of HR
  • strategic Human Resource Management (HRM) and HR development
  • the relationship between HRM and the achievements of individuals and organizations
  • the implementation of new HR policy in relation to the question of organizational change
  • the management of diversity
  • the foundation of HR decisions
  • consultancy on HR decisions

Through specific training you will also work on the development of personal skills relevant to an HR professional.

The Master's program in Human Resource Studies is an intensive one-year program of 60 ECTS. In this year, students will discuss the latest research and its theoretical foundations, and learn how to apply this knowledge in actual organizational settings.
We offer diverse teaching methods that challenge and inform on multiple levels, like interactive lectures, engaging seminars, personal skills workshops, and guest lectures by prominent HR practitioners. Furthermore, students get the opportunity, while they work on their Master's thesis, to do empirical research and collect data in an organizational context.

This one-year Master's program consists of 60 credits (ECTS), of which:

3 core courses (24 ECTS)
2-3 elective courses (12 ECTS)
Master's thesis (24 ECTS)

The program is divided into 4 units and has two intake moments. You can start either end of August (first intake moment) or end of January (second intake moment).
If you are an excellent student and want an additional challenge to distinguish yourself from your fellow students, we can offer you the Extended HRS Master's program: an extension and deepening of the regular graduate program.

Within this Extended Master, we offer 3 different tracks:
  1. International Comparative HR
  2. Professional Traineeship
  3. HR Analytics

The Master's program in Human Resource Studies is an intensive one-year program of 60 ECTs.

During the first semester students will follow courses oriented towards Human Resource Management, Human Resource Development and Organization Strategy. During the first semester you will also start writing your research proposal, which will form the basis of your Master's thesis. Your Master's thesis will be written by you individually during the second semester.

track Extended Master Human Resource Studies

If you are an excellent student and want an additional challenge to distinguish yourself from your fellow students, we can offer you the Extended HRS Master's program (EMHRS).

The EMHRS is an extension and deepening of the regular graduate program. It provides you with relevant experiences and learning opportunities to enhance your professional and academic skills and knowledge. Within this Extended Master, we offer three different tracks:

  1. International Comparative HR

This track takes a cross-cultural approach in order to provide you with an in-depth understanding of the employment relationship in different international settings. You will be given the opportunity to pursue a balanced program of graduate courses (30 ECTS) at one of the host universities in addition to your regular Master's courses.

2. Professional Traineeship
A professional traineeship provides you with relevant work experience and enhances your professional skills and knowledge. In this one-semester traineeship, you will participate in a wide range of HR activities for and supervised by the partner organization.

3. HR Analytics
The HR Analytics track provides you with relevant research experience and advanced methodological skills for analyzing organizational data related to the theme of 'work, employee wellbeing and performance'.

track Global Management of Social Issues: People management for Global Social Challenges

This track gives you a different perspective on Sustainable Development, addressing societal challenges from the point of view of workforce and labor market.

Global Management of Social Issues:

Become an expert in sustainable development within an international context by addressing global societal challenges, such as poverty, migration, climate change, or humanitarian interventions after a natural disaster.

People Management for Global Social Challenges sub-track | main discipline: Human Resource Studies:

The track 'People management for global social challenges' gives you a different perspective on Sustainable Development based on the theories and methods pertinent to this discipline. This specialization address societal challenges from the point of view of workforce and labor market.

The professional prospects are good. Approximately 95% of students have jobs within six months of graduating. A career as an HR professional will be a perfect follow-up to your study. Many graduates start in an operational role, e.g. as an HR assistant, a junior policy adviser or a staff officer.
