Closeness to the operational world
“Shortly after my graduation as work and organizational psychologist at Maastricht University, I started as a PhD student at the National Aerospace Laboratory (NLR) in Amsterdam. Usually people's first reaction is: “Aviation and psychology? How does that fit together?” Quite well, especially after having studied in Maastricht!
During my master's, I built up my knowledge about human performance and cognition, training design, new forms of communication, and development of expertise...
The theoretical foundations, the research competencies, and the aviation-specific knowledge I obtained during the one-year programme at Maastricht University are crucial for my current work about teamwork and shared mental models of air traffic controllers. I enjoy the practical approach of NLR and the closeness to the operational world. However, since I am still affiliated with Maastricht University through my PhD, I can benefit from the excellent expertise within the department of Work and Organizational Psychology. Studying in Maastricht was not only fun, but also a great stepping stone for my professional future.”
